"I'm not aware of any challenges with short-term rentals that need addressing. I would want to ensure the entirety of downtown and the surrounding area doesn't become inundated with them, but otherwise believe they add value to the city."

"I think short-term rentals can have a positive impact on our community in a variety of ways, including tourism and tax revenue. However, you have to be careful opening short-term rentals in residential areas. If our regulations were relaxed, and more homes in residential areas became short-term rentals, that could have a negative impact on the charm and character of Fairhope that we all fell in love with."

"The market dictates housing prices and rental costs. As long as the government isn't raising taxes on property owners significantly than there is little else the city can do to address this. I see many apartment buildings, assisted living facilities, government housing, and single family homes in our city. I'm not sure supply is the problem."

"Fairhope’s popularity has caused its residents to see a tremendous increase in property values in recent years. While this is great for current property owners, it does create a burden for new families trying to move here. While I understand it is a problem for some, I simply do not support large scale apartment-style developments within Fairhope’s city limits. These overly dense developments create an extreme burden on infrastructure, while also creating traffic concerns and overcrowding of our public schools."
